Versatile Himalayan Manipuri Singing/Talking/Fountain Bowl

This is a large and extremely versatile antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with excellent talking and fountain capabilities.  Indeed, with a little water inside, it has the extraordinary ability to talk and fountain simultaneously!  It has an excellent singing voice too…a low fundamental third octave E when struck with a padded mallet.  The rim note is initially the same fine E3 but readily develops into a pure mid octave B as it reaches its climax.

This is an old Manipuri bowl, with quite a lot of wear through long-time use.  The grooves on the lip, the inner circles, and the decorative banding that once formed a collar around the rim are now worn smooth, and there are a couple of small spidery surface fractures low down on the outer wall.  However, these are quite commonplace on older bowls and appear to have no discernable impact on the sound of this one.  The general appearance is clean and structurally intact.

This is a particularly interesting and versatile Manipuri bowl that is a delight to use.  A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
