Very Large Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl – Concert Pitch B

This is a very large and substantial fine quality antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with an unusually low fundamental note, a second octave B.  The note is virtually concert pitch when played around the rim with a suede ringer, but it changes to a mid octave F if a wooden one is used.  This is a complex bowl with many subtle harmonics when played around the rim.  This bowl will also produce great fountains if played with a little water inside.

This is a superbly made and heavy bowl with thick walls.  It is generously decorated inside with incised circles, a ring of sun motifs, and an engraved star at its centre, the latter now worn faint.  The lip is boldly decorated with a necklace of sun motifs (punched dots inside circles) and there are incised lines forming a collar either side of the rim.  Altogether, a top quality bowl in superb condition…free of blemishes and stains, and having a lovely golden colour!

A brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
