Antique Remuna Singing Bowl. F3 (174Hz) & B5 (981Hz)
Weight 1 lb 7 ¾ oz. (671 grams). Size 20 x 9 cm (8 x 3 ½ inches)
This is a stunning early example of the rare and sought-after Remuna bowl form, with a beautiful third octave F (174Hz) concert pitch voice when struck or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to an unusually high B5 (981Hz) when played with a wooden ringer.
It benefits from two exceptionally rare features…a subtle raised lingam-like mound at its centre with a matching depression underneath, and a small engraved inscription on the outer wall.
This (probably) 18th century bowl has a lovely golden colour, fine smooth walls inside and out, and is a pleasure to hold and play. It is in good clean structural condition although showing signs of use over a long period.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and ringer are included in the price.
