Antique Ultabati bowls are now extremely rare and difficult to source. This medium-size antique Ultabati Singing Bowl has a beautiful voice…a low second octave Bb2 (118Hz) that is close to perfect pitch when stuck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a middle F4 (342Hz) with a wooden ringer. It has lots of vibrant energy and is very responsive and easy to play.
It has a gracefully curved wall, a typical outward-sloping rim, and a rounded bottom. The outer wall has an attractive finely hammered surface with decorative lines encircling the shoulder, while the interior is smooth and shiny.
This bowl is believed to date from the late 19th or early 20th century, and is in exceptional condition, clean and stain-free.
