Glorious 12 ¾“ Antique Temple Jambati Singing Bowl – Perfect Pitch D2 & OM & Fountains

This fabulous huge bowl is as near to perfection as one could wish for in an antique Jambati.  Bordering on the largest of its type at 12 ¾ inches, and in an excellent blemish-free state of preservation, it has a beautiful low Perfect Pitch D2 fundamental.  Furthermore, its superior quality, finely hammered walls, and lovely golden bronze colour contribute considerably to its aesthetic appeal.  

This bowl has been superbly crafted.  Weighing just 2.61 kilos (5 lb 12 oz) its finely hammered walls make it really light for its size, and therefore just  possible for hand-held playing.  It has a fabulous deep-bodied and gracefully curved wall, a plain sheered lip, and a rounded bottom.  There are circles at its centre and decorative bands encircling the outer rim.

Its physical beauty is matched by a superb low Perfect Pitch second octave D2 fundamental (72/3Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a heavy suede ringer.  This same ringer will also produce the sacred OM sound favoured by Buddhists and others. It will also produce vibrant energetic fountains if struck or played with water inside.  When played around the rim with a lighter suede ringer the note changes to an A3 (217/8Hz), and when played with a wooden ringer the rim note becomes G#4 (421Hz).  It’s a very responsive bowl, easy to play, and has a long sustain.

This impressive Jambati Singing Bowl is quite likely to have served an important ceremonial purpose and may have been commissioned by or for a temple or monastery, but in later years it could have been used for the storage of grain; this accounting for its exceptional condition.
