Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes: E2/F2 & B3/B4 (Solar Plexus/Heart & Crown & Chakras)
Weight: 3.67 kilos (7 lb 7 oz). Size: 33.5 x 13.5 cm (13 ¼ x 5 ¼ inches)
This massive Jambati Singing Bowl with its plain graciously curved wall and sheered lip is believed to date from the early to mid 20th century. There are no circles or decorative features but it’s an attractive bowl with clean polished walls and particularly nice smooth ‘bruised’ hammer markings externally.
This is a multi-harmonic bowl with a fabulous second octave fundamental that flickers between perfect pitch E2 (82Hz) and F2 (84Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the with a heavy suede ringer. The rim note becomes a B3 (250Hz) with a lighter suede ringer and a B4 (490Hz) with a wooden one, but other harmonics are also present. This bowl also has an exceptionally long sustain.
It is in excellent structural condition, clean and stain-free, with a bright golden bronze colour.
This is a particularly heavy singing bowl, and is best placed on a mat or cushion for playing.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a ringer are all included in the price.
