Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes: G#2 & Eb4 (Throat & Solar Plexus Chakras)
Weight 1.91 kilos (4 lb 3 oz). Size 27 x 12 cm (10 ½ x 4 ¾ inches)
This 19th century fine-walled Jambati Singing Bowl weighs less than 2 kilos, making it relatively light for its size and therefore easy to hold and play for an extended period. Furthermore, it has a sought-after low second octave fundamental normally only found on much larger and heavier bowls.
The fundamental note is a virtually Perfect Pitch second octave G#2 (105Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a middle Eb4 (318Hz) with a wooden ringer.
It has a gracefully curved wall with a triangulated lip and a rounded bottom. There are decorative bands encircling the outer rim, and faint circles at its centre.
This old bowl shows some signs of wear but remains structurally sound, clean, and free of stains. The mottled hammers markings on its now-smooth walls are particularly attractive. Altogether, a very nice bowl!
A padded striker and a ringer are included in the price.
