Magnificent 19th Century 12 ¾” Jambati Ceremonial/Temple Singing Bowl – Perfect Pitch F#2

£4,000.00

Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes F#2 & C#4 (Heart & Root Chakras)

Weight 2.69 kilos (5 lb 15 oz).  Size 32.5 x 14 cm (12 ¾ x 5 ½ inches)

This is a huge antique Jambati Singing bowl dating from the 19th Century, possibly earlier, with a perfect pitch F#2 voice.

The fundamental is a low second octave perfect pitch F#2 (93Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a middle octave C#4 (285Hz) with a wooden ringer.  It has incredible vibrant energy and will almost certainly make fountains if played with a little water inside.  It plays beautifully when handheld but is best placed on a cushion for playing  because of its weight.

Antique Jambati bowls approaching anything like this size are extremely rare and sought after for their beautiful low resonant powerful voices and long sustains.  It is likely that this superior quality bowl was commissioned by or for a monastery or temple, where it would have served some important ceremonial purpose.

This is a superior quality bowl with a graceful body, a triangulated lip, decorative bands forming a collar around the outer rim, and circles at its centre.  It has a very attractive finely hammered exterior wall that reflects the light.

It is in good condition for its age; structurally sound, clean and stain-free, with slight aged grazing, and copper oxidization inside.

A very attractive large bowl with an excellent voice!

A padded striker, and a ringer are included in the price.
