Magnificent Rare Huge 18th Century Ceremonial Ultabati Singing Bowl – C.Pitch D2 & OM

SOLD

Antique Ultabati Singing Bowl.  Notes: D2 & G#3 (Sacral & Throat Chakras)

Weight 2.65 kilos (5 lb 13 oz).  Size 33 x 16 cm (13 x 6 ¼  inches)

This wonderful antique Ultabati Singing Bowl has a diameter of 13 inches and is the largest I have encountered in over 40 years of collecting rare bowls.  It has a great voice, is beautifully proportioned, light for its size, and has a glorious golden bronze colour.

The fundamental note is a fabulous low concert pitch second octave D2 (73Hz) with a pronounced pulse and nice sustain when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a heavy suede ringer. The rim note will switch to a concert pitch third octave G#3 (208Hz) with a lighter suede ringer.  It has bags of vibrant energy and will readily produce the OM sound.

This Ultabati bowl is believed to date from the 18th Century, but could be older as there is evidence of long use.  It was sourced in the Indian Himalayas, and its size and quality make it likely that it served an important ceremonial or ritual purpose.  A series of ritual gashes encircle the outer wall at intervals.

It takes the typical Ultabati form with a scooped collar, sloping sheered lip surrounded by a pair of decorative incised lines, and circles at its centre.  There are some age-related surface blemishes here and there, but it is clean and in excellent structural condition for its age.

This is a wonderful, rare, and significant antique Ultabati Singing Bowl that will be hard to part with, and will make a fabulous addition to any collection.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and 2 ringers are all included in the price.
