This is an exceptional and outstanding antique Jambati Singing Bowl of the highest quality…the result of an ongoing bowl search for the most magnificent, majestic and musical of singing bowls from the Himalayas. This spectacular bowl is more than equal to anything in my extensive collection, and would sit comfortably among the finest collections anywhere in the world.
This is a really huge and heavy bowl with a massive presence. It has a diameter of 14 inches and weighs nearly 10 pounds. It has a deep full body, a wide triangulated inward-facing lip. Several boldly incised lines form a decorative collar around the outer rim, and there are large concentric circles at its centre.
The fundamental struck note is an incredibly beautiful low pulsating and spot-on perfect pitch second octave A2 (110Hz) that goes on and on. The note is the same whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer, but the rim note will readily develop into a stunning middle octave E4 (332Hz). The size and weight of this bowl is such that it is best placed on a cushion for playing.
This stunning antique Jambati ticks all the boxes…great quality, good looks, excellent condition and, above all, a wonderful voice. I cannot speak more highly of it. Its superior quality, size, and weight strongly suggests that it was a very important ceremonial bowl that was probably commissioned by or for a temple or monastery.
