Massive Superior Quality 13 ¾” Jambati Singing Bowl – Perfect Pitch Bb2 – Inscription

This rare, massive, superior quality antique Jambati Singing Bowl has a huge diameter of 13 ¾ inches, weighs 3.41 kilos, and is one of the largest in my collection. Antique Jambati bowls approaching anything like this size are extremely rare and sought after for their beautiful low resonant notes, loud voices and long sustains.

This handsome bowl has a fabulous perfect pitch second octave Bb2 fundamental (116Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the with a heavy suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave F#3 with a wooden ringer.  This heavy bowl is best placed on a cushion for playing, and will be supplied with a large Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion.

This 19th Century Singing Bowl has a really lovely full and deep-bodied shape, with finely hammered walls, and features a particularly nice and boldly-grooved lip and rim. There are circles at its centre and incised bands encircling the outer rim.

It also benefits from a small inscription on the outer wall; an indication of the high esteem in which this bowl was held by a former keeper.

This antique singing bowl is so rare and exceptional that I  bought it despite knowing it has a fine aged crack on its floor.  Such cracks are commonplace on ancient bowls.  They are completely stable and do nothing to impair the excellent sound quality.  However, I will personally guarantee the stability of this imperfection and have also reduced the price accordingly.  Apart from this minor imperfection this bowl is in exceptional condition, clean and virtually stain-free inside and out, and has a glorious golden bronze colour.
