Ultabati Singing Bowl. Notes: D2 & G#3 (Sacral & Throat Chakras)
Weight 2.21 kilos (4 lb 13 oz). Size 32 x 15.5 cm (12 ¾ x 6 inches)
Antique Ultabati bowls are now extremely rare and difficult to source, even more so for large examples. This particular bowl is exceptional in every respect…age, size, shape, quality, condition and musicality…and ranks among the very best in my collection spanning 45 years.
This huge and beautiful Ultabati Singing Bowl has a fabulous perfect pitch voice…a low second octave D2 (73Hz) when stuck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The played D2 will readily develop into a third octave G#3 (208Hz) harmonic if desired, the same note produced with a wooden ringer. It is extremely responsive and easy to play.
This bowl has masses of vibrant energy and will readily make the sacred OM sound with a heavy suede ringer.
The average diameter of an antique Ultabati is around 10 inches. This one has a massive diameter of 12 ¾ inches, and weighs 2.19 kilos. This is half the weight of some Ultabti and Jambati bowls with the same diameter, and therefore easier to hold and play for an extended period.
It has a gracefully curved wall with a scooped collar and shoulder, a typical downward-sloping lip, and a rounded bottom. The polished scooped collar contrasts nicely with the faintly mottled hammered surface below. The boundary between the collar and the area below is further defined by a pair of parallel lines. The circles at its centre have all but disappeared with the passage of time.
This bowl is thought to date from the 19th century. It is in exceptional museum quality condition, clean and stain-free. It has a fabulous matt bronze colour and is extremely aesthetically and sonically beautiful. It is quite likely that this superior quality bowl served an important ceremonial purpose and was commissioned by or for a Temple or Monastery.
It is structurally perfect and clean, without stains or blemishes, with a fabulous patina acquired through the ages. It has the look and feel of purpose and great antiquity, with masses of aesthetic appeal.
A huge and wonderful example of this rare bowl form that would be a centerpiece in any collection!
A large Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker, and 2 ringers are all included in the price.
NOTE: The price of this wonderful Antique Singing Bowl will be reduced to £4,800 with the discount code asb20%retire when checking out. This retirement discount is time limited.
Note: At the time of listing there are two virtually identical perfect pitch antique D2 Ultabati on this website. They were sourced together in Bangladesh and almost certainly came from the same forge and were possibly made as a pair to be played together. Both are equally huge and wonderful with only subtle differences between them.
