A Lovely Rare Large Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – Fabulous E3

Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: E3 & B4 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)

Weight 1.42 kilos (3 lb 2 oz).  Size 24 x 9.5 cm (9 ¼ x 3 ¾ inches)

This superior quality antique Lingam Singing Bowl has a particularly lovely shape with its wall gracefully rising cone-like from a small base.  Dating from the 1800s it has a finely forged wall and a narrow triangulated and grooved lip, and features a magnificent pointed lingam surrounded and defined by circles at its centre, and a deep matching navel or yoni underneath.  Several incised bands encircling the outer rim form a decorative collar.

The fundamental note is a fabulous pulsating third octave E3 (162Hz) with a long sustain when stuck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  With a wooden ringer the rim note changes to a middle B4 (492Hz) that is quite close to concert pitch.

This lovely antique bowl has very attractive smooth walls with an aged patina and is structurally sound and free of stains.  There is evidence of a tiny surface blemish underneath, but it is merely a cosmetic issue that did not penetrate and is therefore of no consequence (close examination suggests it was a tiny metal bubble or blister that has been filled or filed down).

An exceptionally rare and lovely antique Lingam Bowl with a fabulous voice!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker, and a double ended teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.
