Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes: Eb3 & Bb4 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)
Weight 1.55 kilos (3 lb 6 ¾ oz). Size 27 x 13 (10 ½ x 5 inches)
This is a large superior quality 11 ½ ” Antique Jambati Singing Bowl with a perfect pitch third octave Eb3 fundamental (155Hz) with a long sustain when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to middle Bb4 (463Hz) when played with a wooden ringer, usually accompanied by the lower Eb3 in the background.
It has a gracefully curved full-bodied form with finely hammered walls that have been worn sensually smooth over time. It’s hard to believe that it was originally beaten into shape with hammers.! It probably dates from the 1850s and the circles that once decorated its centre have been worn away with years of use. It has a triangulated lip, with decorative bands encircling the outer rim.
Although this lovely antique bowl is structurally sound, it does have a few tiny hairline cracks of a type that are fairly commonplace on older fine-walled bowls. However, they are only apparent on very close inspection, and have no impact on the sound quality, which in this case is excellent.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, padded striker, and a ringer are all included in the price.
