Antique Copper-Red Jambati Singing & Fountain Bowl – Perfect Pitch C#3

£840.00

Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes: C#3 & G4 (Root & Throat Chakras)

Weight 1.35 kilos (3 lb 0 oz).  Size 24 x 10 cm (9 ½ x 4 inches)

This interesting old bowl is believed to date from the 19th century.  It is structurally sound but has lots of surface bruises and crazing on the outer wall that is sometimes found on very old bowls, so it could well be 18th century.

This Jambati has a slightly lumpy and rustic appearance, and has been forged from an alloy with exceptionally high copper content, making it the reddest bowl I have come across.  It has a plain sheered lip and a rounded bottom.  The circles at its centre, if there were any, have been worn away with the passage of time.  There is a single incised decorative band forming a collar around the outer rim .

The fundamental note is a perfect pitch third octave C#3 (138Hz) when stuck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a middle octave G4 (401Hz) with a wooden ringer.  It is very responsive and easy to play.

This bowl has a lot of vibrant energy and is capable of making splashy fountains if played with water inside.  I line half-way down the inner wall could be a marker for the water level.  It also has a little talking ability when struck and rocked back and forth with a little water inside.

A padded striker, and a ringer are included free of charge.
