Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl – A3 – Supplied ‘As Found’ – Suns
£550.00
Thadobati Singing Bowl. Notes: A3 & Eb5 (Third Eye & Solar Plexus Chakras)
Weight 936 grams (2 lb 1 oz). Size 18.5 x 9 cm (17 ¼ x 3 ½ inches)
This 19th century Thadobati Singing Bowl has bags of character with its slightly irregular wall and faintly lumpy surface resulting from the primitive conditions in which it was forged. It is supplied ‘as found’ (uncleaned) with its life story intact, and this adds to its look of long use and antiquity.
It has the classical Thadobati form with a fairly straight high-sided wall, sheered lip, and flat bottom. There are circles at its centre (the smaller ones having been drawn freehand) and, unusually, a decorative chain of suns (dot within circles) encircling the outer rim, a feature only found on older bowls. There are also magical or ritual gashes around the outer rim.
The fundamental note is a third octave A3 (225/6Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note is a penetrating and pulsating fifth octave Eb5 (632Hz) with a wooden ringer.
This interesting old bowl is in good structural condition with an aged patina.
A ringer is supplied free of charge.
