Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl. Notes: G3 & C5 (Throat & Root Chakras)
Weight: 1.11 kilos (2 lb 7 oz). Size: 18.5 x 9.5 cm (7 ¼ x 3 ¾ inches)
This antique Thadobati Singing Bowl is so old that its walls have been worn thin through handling and ritual washing, and ALL of its former decorative features (circles at the centre and lines around the rim etc.) have vanished completely with the passage of time. This type of wear is not necessarily to its detriment as it often refines the sound and lightens the weight, making it easier to hold and play for an extended period.
The fundamental struck note sits midway between F#3 and G3 (190Hz-191Hz) and flickers between the two, but when played around the rim with a suede ringer it settles on the G3….then gradually develops into a fifth octave C5 (530Hz) harmonic. A wooden ringer will also produce the C5 note.
This 19th Century bowl is in excellent structural condition despite the long use and wear. It is also clean and stain-free, with an attractive bright golden bronze colour.
A characterful old bowl with a nice voice and an interesting outer surface reflecting long service!
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
