Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl. Notes: G3 & C#5 (Throat & Root Chakras)
Weight: 848 grams (1 lb 14 oz). Size: 18 x 9 cm (7 x 3 ½ inches)
This Thadobati Singing Bowl with its near straight-sided wall, plain sheered lip, and flat bottom is believed to date from the 19th Century, but could be older.
It features a decorative collar of sun motifs (punched dot inside a circle) found on older Thadobati bowls, and there is evidence of magical or ritual gashes in places around the outer rim.
It also has an excellent ‘talking voice’ when struck or played and rocked back and forth with a little water inside. Talking bowls are extremely rare, and are highly prized by shamans for their ability to connect and communicate with the spirit world.
This old Thadobati has a third octave G3 (190-195Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The fundamental G3 readily evolves into a fifth octave C#5 (547Hz) if desired, the same note that is produced with a wooden ringer.
This old bowl is in excellent structural condition, basically clean but with some staining inside. It has the look and feel of considerable use and great antiquity, with an aged patina.
An interesting and characterful antique singing and talking bowl.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
