Exceptional Rare 18th Century Lingam Singing Bowl – E3 – Inscribed
SOLD
Rare Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: E3 & Bb4 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)
Weight: 1 .05 Kilos (2 lb 5 oz). Size: 20 x 9.5 cm (8 x 3 ¾ inches)
This is a wonderful example of superior quality 18th Century Lingam Singing Bowl with a perfect pitch third octave E3 (164Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a middle octave Bb4 (477Hz) with a wooden ringer. It is very responsive and easy to play.
This bowl has been exquisitely and expertly forged, and to my mind is perfectly proportioned and a comfortable weight and size for everyday hand-held playing. Its gracefully curved wall is finer (thinner) than average, making the bowl lighter to hold. It has an even sheered lip and a rounded bottom.
The Lingam at its centre is surrounded by multiple circles that are now quite faint due to wear, and there is a deep matching naval or yoni underneath. The outer rim is decorated with a single band of tiny cuts as found on older bowls.
There is a neat inscription engraved on the outer wall, the meaning of which is unknown. Very few bowls carry inscriptions. They are a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.
A particular feature of this Lingam Singing Bowl is its wonderful colour and the aged patina acquired over its lifetime. It looks and feels ancient and special. It is also structurally sound, clean, and free of stains and blemishes. Simply fabulous!
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
