Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes D3/Eb3 & A4 (Sacral/Solar Plexus & Third Eye Chakras)
Weight 2.23 kilos (4 lb 15 oz). Size 27 x 12 cm (10 ¾ x 4 ¾ inches)
This is a particularly rare and lovely antique GOLDEN LINGAM BOWL with a huge lingam surrounded by circles at its centre and a deep yoni or navel underneath. It’s a heavy bowl, beautifully forged, with sensually smooth golden walls inside and out, and a plain lip with a single line encircling the inner rim. With a 10 ¾ inch diameter it’s a very large bowl for a Lingam. They very rarely exceed 9 inches.
This lovely bowl has a borderline third octave D3/Eb3 fundamental (151-152Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a middle octave A4 (447Hz) with a wooden ringer. The struck note is particularly nice, having a slightly bell-like quality floating above the lower pulsating hum of the beautiful D3/Eb3.
This lingam is notable for its size, weight, superior quality and sound…and especially for its unusual rich golden bronze colour. It is in excellent structural condition and free of stains and blemishes, and would grace any collection.
Large superior quality Lingams such as this are impossible to find nowadays.
Simply Glorious!
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a ringer are all included in the price.
Footnote: This is only the third time I have come across this type of superior golden lingam in 40 years of collecting. I believe they all originate from a single family forge, in India or Nepal, before finding their way to a Himalayan antiques dealer. I acquired several similar but smaller Golden Lingam bowls with this one and will be listing them shortly, unless sold privately.
