Antique Remuna Singing Bowl. Notes Bb3 & F5 (Crown & Heart Chakras)
Weight 963 grams (2 lb 2 oz). Size 19 x 10 cm (7 ½ x 4 inches)
This is a rare 19th century Remuna Singing Bowl with two great voices…a third octave Bb3 (235Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer, and a fifth octave F5 (681Hz) when played with a wooden ringer.
This Antique Singing Bowl has the classic Remuna body shape with its slightly globular wall, but with an unusual (and early) grooved pie-crust lip. There are circles at its centre and two decorative bands form a collar around the outer rim.
Remuna bowls are renowned for their beautiful voices and ease of play, and this bowl is no exception.
It is in good structural condition, clean and basically stain-free, with a nice golden bronze colour.
Of particular interest are more than 40 small circular blobs at random intervals on the surface of the outer wall below the collar. If there were just a few I would have said they were tiny inclusions or grits in the molten alloy, but there are so many and their placement seems deliberate. It is likely that they served a magical or ritual purpose, much as the gashes found on some older bowl types.
A ringer is included in the price.
