I have put these two 19th century rare Lingam Singing Bowls together to make a matched pair because of their similarity of shape, size, proportion, octave, and decoration. It is very unusual to find 2 rare lingams with so much in common. Furthermore, their two 3rd octave fundamental notes go beautifully together.
Both bowls have almost straight sides, a sheered lip, circles surrounding the lingams at the centre, with matching navels below. They also have decorative lines encircling the outer rim and around the belly. The slightly smaller bowl is heavier than the larger. Both are a similar age, in excellent structural condition, with an attractive aged patina.
The slightly smaller bowl (left) has a lovely A3 (223Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a fifth octave Eb5 (613Hz) with a wooden ringer.
The other bowl (right) has a perfect pitch G3 (195Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a fifth octave C5 (536Hz) with a wooden ringer.
Both bowls are responsive and easy to play.
A ringer is included in the price.
