Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes: G3 & Eb5 (Throat & Solar Plexus Chakras)
Weight 1.35 grams (3 lb 0 oz). Size 25.5 x 11 cm (10 x 4 ¼ inches)
This large 19th century Jambati Singing Bowl has given so many years of service that it is now probably half of its original weight…making it unusually light for its size and comfortable to hold and play for an extended period. Its walls have been worn down and made smooth through countless years of use and ritual cleaning, and it’s almost impossible to believe that it was fashioned by hammers beating its surface!
It’s had a hard life too! There are small digs, gashes, and dents (nothing serious) here and there, and some copper oxide pitting inside. The circle at its centre has been almost worn away, and the decorative lines encircling the outer rim are incomplete. But none of this has impacted negatively on its sound. Indeed, I believe it has actually refined its voice!
The fundamental note is a satisfying third octave G3 (192Hz) when struck with a padded mallet and a perfect pitch G3 (196/7Hz) when played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a fifth octave Eb5 (613Hz) harmonic with a wooden ringer.
It’s an attractive bowl with a very graceful curved wall, an uneven and grooved triangulated lip, and a rounded bottom. Despite the wear and tear it is free of stains and has a beautiful golden bronze colour.
A well-worn and characterful antique Jambati Singing Bowl that continues to give excellent service!
A padded striker and a ringer are supplied free of charge.
