Lovely Rare Antique Hybrid Remuna-Lingam Singing Bowl – Bb3 & F5

£725.00

Antique Lingam Singing Bowl.  Notes: Bb3 & F5 (Crown & Heart Chakras)

Weight: 663 grams (1 lb 7 oz).  Size: 17.5 x 8 cm (6 ¾  x 3 ¼ inches)

This is a lovely example of a smallish and rare hybrid Remuna-Lingam Singing Bowl.  It has an excellent third octave Bb3 (238Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a very nice fifth octave F5 (686Hz) when played with a wooden ringer. This bowl is very responsive and easy to play.

Lingam bowls have a very distinctive sound, and Remuna bowls are renowned for their beautiful voices and ease of play, and this lovely bowl combines the best of both worlds.  This bowl has the body shape of a Remuna bowl with its fine globular wall and lip, but with the addition of a lingam surrounded by circles at its centre and a matching navel or yoni underneath.

This bowl is believed to date from the 18th century.  Most of its decorative artwork has been worn away from use with the passage of time, leaving its hammered walls silky smooth.

It is structurally sound and free of stains and blemishes, with an attractive aged patina.

A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.

A fabulous example of this rare singing bowl form!
