Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: D3 & G#4 (Sacral & Throat Chakras)
Weight: 801 grams (1 lb 12 oz). Size: 18 x 9.5 cm ( 7 x 3 ¾ inches)
This rare antique Lingam Singing Bowl is believed to date from the 19th century but could be older. Its hammered walls have been refined and worn smooth after long use and some of its original decorative features have all but disappeared with the passage of time. However, the circles surrounding the lingam at its centre are still well-defined, and there is a faint circle around its belly.
It has the pie-crust lip found on older bowls, and there is evidence of a series of ritual gashes at intervals around the outer wall. Both are very rarely found on antique Lingam bowls.
The fundamental note is close to perfect pitch third octave D3 (149/150Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a middle octave G#4 (426Hz) with a wooden ringer.
This ancient Lingam Singing Bowl has the look and feel of antiquity, and is in excellent structural condition with an attractive golden bronze colour.
A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
