Rare 18th Century Lingam Singing & Talking Bowl with Perfect Pitch G#3
SOLD
Rare Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: G#3 & D5 (Throat and Sacral Chakras)
Weight: 1.10 kilos (2 lb 7 oz). Size: 19 x 9 cm (7 ½ x 3 ½ inches)
This rare 18th Century Lingam Singing has a perfect pitch third octave G#3 fundamental (207Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. However, the G#3 rim note quickly develops into an extremely powerful and penetrating fifth octave D5 (600Hz). The same D5 is produced when playing with a wooden ringer.
Furthermore it has an excellent talking voice when struck or played and rocked back and forth with a little water inside. Talking bowls are extremely rare, especially among lingams, and are highly prized by shamans for their ability to connect and communicate with the spirit world.
This very old singing bowl has been well used during its long life, and most of its external decorative features have been worn away with the passage of time. However, there is still a band of tiny dots encircling the outer rim, and there is evidence of ritual or magical markings here and there on the exterior wall.
Its gracefully curved wall is a little lower than usual. It has a fine sheered lip, and a rounded bottom. The rounded Lingam at its centre is surrounded by a set of circles, and there is a nice matching naval or yoni underneath.
This antique singing and talking bowl is structurally sound, clean, free of stains and blemishes, with a smattering of copper oxidization inside.
A wonderful old bowl with a great voice!
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
