Rare 19th Century Lingam Singing Bowl – E3 & Bb4

This Lingam Singing Bowl dates from the 19th century.  The fundamental note is an excellent third octave E3 (167Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a middle octave Bb4 (478Hz) harmonic with a wooden ringer.  This bowl is very responsive and easy to play.  

This lingam bowl has been well crafted.  It has high-sided walls, a plain sheered lip, and a flat bottom.   The large lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, and there is a deep matching navel or yoni underneath.  The walls are smooth from long use, and all other decorative features have been worn away with the passage of time.

It is in good structural condition, clean and free of stains, with an attractive golden bronze colour.  However, there is a barely noticeable small stable crack inside that slightly penetrates through to the bottom.  It has no impact on the bowl’s sound quality, but I have reduced its price accordingly to reflect this cosmetic issue.

A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included with the bowl free of charge.
