Rare 9 ¾” Antique Shaman Button Lingam Singing Bowl – Perfect Pitch Eb3

£845.00

Antique Lingam Singing Bowl.   Notes: Eb3 & Bb5 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)

Weight 1.17 kilos (2 lb 9 ¼ oz).   Size 24.5 x 6 cm (9 ¾ x 2 ¼ inches)

This is a very rare antique Lingam Singing Bowl with a shallow body, and a button-shaped lingam surrounded by circles at its centre.  Superficially it resembles a large Manipuri bowl but on closer inspection it is very different, and it differs from most lingam bowls too in having no yoni or naval underneath.  It is quite heavy for its size and has an unusual downward sloping grooved lip, a single incised line around the inner rim, and decorative bands encircling the outer rim.  This 18th or early 19th century bowl is very much a one-off!

The fundamental note is a virtually perfect pitch third octave Eb3 (154Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. and a powerful and piercing fifth octave Bb5 (909Hz) with a wooden one.

It is in excellent structural condition, basically clean, with an aged patina and the look and feel of great antiquity.

This rare bowl is of a type sometimes used by shaman for divination, or on ritual or ceremonial occasions.

A Tibetan silk brocade cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
