Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: F3 & C5 (Heart & Root Chakras)

Weight: 900 grams (2 lb 0 oz).  Size: 20 x 10 cm (8 x 4 inches)

This rare antique Lingam Singing Bowl is thought to date from 1800, but could be older to judge from its ultra-thin walls and lack of external decorative features…all worn down through years of handling and use.

It has a curved wall, a once-grooved lip, and a flat bottom.  The Lingam at its centre is surrounded by one set of circles, the others having been worn away with the passage of time, along with virtually all external artwork.  There is evidence of a decorative band around the rim, and another halfway down the outer wall.  Close examinations suggests it might once have had an inscription too.  There is a nice naval or yoni underneath.

It has a lovely third octave F3 fundamental (178Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a perfect pitch fifth octave C5 (524Hz) with a wooden ringer.

This ancient Lingam bowl looks its age and will be supplied ‘as found’.  It is structurally sound and clean, with darker patches on the surface the result of copper oxidization, not stains. They are just part of the aging process, along with the aged patina, and lend interest and character.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
