Rare Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – Perfect Pitch G#3 – Long Inscription

This rare medium-size Lingam Singing Bowl has a perfect pitch third octave G#3 (207Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave D5 (380Hz) with a wooden ringer.

Its fine walls have been worn smooth with the passage of time although there is evidence of some decorative dots and lines encircling the rim, with more lines around the lower outer wall.  The pronounced lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, and there is a deep navel or yoni underneath.

This bowl benefits from a long dot-punched inscription, possibly in a Nepali language, on the outer wall.  Inscriptions are a sure sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.

The structural condition of this bowl is excellent, and it is free of stains and blemishes.  It has an antique golden bronze colour with an aged patina.
