Rare & Extraordinary Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – Self-Amplifying & Inscribed

£1,200.00

Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: G3/G#3 & C#5 (Throat & Root Chakras)

Weight 843 grams (1 lb 14 oz).  Size 19 x 8.5 cm (7 ½ x 4 ¼ inches)

This rare antique Lingam Singing Bowl has a unique and sonorous voice, no doubt due to its finely forged walls and extraordinary shape.  It has lots of vibrant energy and is also self-amplifying.

The beautiful fundamental note is on the cusp between a second octave G3 and G#3 (200Hz – 202Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave C#5 with a wooden ringer.

This unique bowl has fine walls with a pronounced scooped shoulder, a plain slightly flared sheered lip, and a very rounded bottom.  There are multiple decorative circles between the shoulder and the rim, and two sets of circles surrounding the lingam at its centre.  There is a neat navel or yoni underneath.  It also benefits from a small inscription; a fair indication of the high esteem in which it was held by a former keeper.

This rare bowl is believed to date from the 1800s but could be older.   It has an antique golden bronze colour and is in excellent condition, free of stains and blemishes, with an attractive aged patina.

The unique shape and sonic qualities of this antique bowl suggests that it was crafted to serve a special ritual or ceremonial purpose.  It looks and feels old and special.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
