Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: F3 & C5 (Heart & Root Chakras)
Weight: 1.02 kilos (2 lb 4 oz). Size: 19 x 10 cm (7 ½ x 4 inches)
This is a large 7 ½ inch antique Thadobati-Lingam Singing Bowl with a finely hammered high-sided wall, sheared lip and flat bottom. At its centre there is a neat lingam surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, with a matching navel or yoni underneath. There is evidence of some decorative lines around the outer wall, now worn away with use over the years.
It has a near perfect pitch third octave F3 fundamental (176Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a ringer. The rim note changes to a fifth octave C5 (511Hz) with a wooden ringer.
A series of ritual or magical gashes encircling the outer rim is a particularly interesting feature commonly found on early Thadobati bowls, but less so on Lingams.
This is a very old bowl, probably 18th century, that has the look and feel of great antiquity. Its structural condition is excellent. It is free of stains and blemishes, and has a rich golden bronze colour.
A ringer is included in the price.
