Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: A3 (Third Eye Chakra)

Weight: 1.10 kilos (2 lb 8oz).  Size: 20 x 10 cm (8 x 4 inches)

This is a substantial and rare early 19th Century high-wall Lingam Singing Bowl.  It has a characterful and slightly unrefined appearance, a sheered lip, and two decorative bands of tiny dots encircling the outer rim.   The Lingam at its centre is particularly nice and surrounded and defined by two sets of decorative circles, and there is a matching yoni or navel underneath.

This bowl benefits from a small inscription on the outer wall; possibly the name of the original owner.  Inscriptions are a fair indication of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.

It has a distinctive middle octave A3 fundamental (217Hz) when struck with a padded mallet.  The struck note is particularly nice, with a long sustain for a Lingam bowl.  The rim note is also A3 (221/22Hz) and very close to perfect pitch when played with a suede ringer.

It is structurally sound, clean and stain-free, with an antique bronze colour and aged patina.

A rare high-wall Lingam bowl with a lot of character and a distinctive voice!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker, and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.
