Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: G#3 & Eb5 (Throat & solar Plexus Chakras)

Weight: 1.26 kilos (2 lb 12 oz).  Size: 20 x 11 cm ( 8 x 4 ¼ inches)

This rare antique Lingam Singing Bowl was sourced in India and is believed to date from the 19th century but could be older.  This is a very substantial high-sided bowl, with thick walls, a sheered lip, and flat bottom.

The Lingam at its centre is surrounded by circles, with a matching naval or yoni underneath.  A faint decorative line encircles the outer wall about an inch below the rim.

The fundamental note is close to perfect pitch third octave G#3 (209Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave Eb5 (615Hz) with a wooden ringer.  There is also a D6 harmonic.

It benefits from an engraved inscription, probably in an ancient form of Farsi, below the outer rim.  Inscriptions are a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.

This ancient Lingam Singing Bowl has bags of character and the look and feel of great antiquity.  It is supplied ‘as found’ (uncleaned).  It is in excellent structural condition and has a wonderful dark bronze colour and aged patina.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a striker, and a ringer are included in the price.
