Rare Medium-Size 18th Century Lingam Singing Bowl – Lovely Aged Patina
£650.00
Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: Bb3 & F5 (Crown & Heart Chakras)
Weight: 493 grams (1 lb 1 oz). Size: 16.5 x 7.5 cm (6 ½ x 3 inches)
This is a great example of an early Lingam Singing Bowl in its ‘as found’ uncleaned condition with its lovely aged patina intact.
It has a relatively low wall, a sheered lip, and rounded bottom. There is a lingam at its centre and a navel or yoni underneath. Its walls have been worn sensually smooth from centuries of use, and its decorative features have all but disappeared.
There its possibly some evidence that the navel was once filled in during a safekeeping ritual to ensure a pregnancy went full-term.
The fundamental note is a nice third octave Bb3 (228Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a fifth octave F5 (684Hz) with a wooden ringer. It is a responsive bowl and is easy to play.
This ancient singing bowl, although well worn, is in excellent structural condition and free of stains and blemishes.
A rare and lovely old Lingam Singing Bowl!
A teak and suede ringer is included free of charge.
