Rare Medium-Size Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – 1800s – Low Wall Bb3

This medium size antique Lingam Singing Bowl, circa 1800, has a relatively low wall, a plain sheered lip and a rounded bottom.  A neat pointed lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, and there is a matching navel or yoni underneath.  Its walls have been refined and worn sensually smooth over the years and nothing remains of the decorative features it might once have possessed.  Indeed, it’s now hard to believe that this bowl was originally hammered into shape. 

The fundamental note is a lovely third octave Bb3 (235Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer. The rim note changes to a fifth octave F5 (682Hz) with a wooden ringer.  It is very responsive and easy to play.

This old bowl has considerable aesthetic appeal…its ultra-smooth walls and bright golden colour being a real feature!  It is structurally sound and free of stains and blemishes.
