Rare Medium-Size Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – B3 – Inscribed
£670.00
Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: B3 & F5 (Crown & Heart Chakras)
Weight: 780 grams (1 lb 12 oz). Size: 16 x 7.5 cm (6 ¼ x 3 inches)
This medium-size antique Lingam Singing Bowl has a gracefully curved wall, sheered lip, and rounded bottom. There is an excellent pointed lingam surrounded and defined by two sets of circles at its centre, with a deep navel or yoni underneath. A decorative band of tiny dots encircles the outer rim.
This is a very old bowl with walls worn sensually smooth through years of handling and use. Faint impressions around the exterior wall suggest that it may once have carried ritual or magical gashes that are associated with older bowl forms. Interestingly, the wall also carries 2 inclusions…specks of dust or grit that were accidentally included in the molten mix, and show up as tiny pimples or blisters on the surface.
This bowl also benefits from a dot-punched inscription on the outer wall, a sure sign of the high esteem in which it was held by a former keeper.
It has an excellent third octave B3 fundamental A3 (250Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to fifth octave F5 (705Hz) harmonic when played with a wooden ringer.
It is in good structural condition, clean and stain-free, and has an attractive golden bronze colour.
A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
