Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: D4 & A5 (Sacral & Third Eye Chakras)
Weight: 663 grams (1 lb 7 oz). Size: 16 x 8 cm (6 ¼ x 3 inches)
This rare medium-size antique Lingam Singing Bowl is thought to date from the 1800s to judge from its ultra-smooth walls and its decorative features worn down through years of handling and use.
It has a curved wall, a once-grooved lip, and a flat bottom. The Lingam at its centre is surrounded by one set of circles, the others having been worn away with the passage of time, along with virtually all external artwork. It has a deep naval or yoni underneath. There is evidence of a decorative band of dots around the rim.
This bowl benefits from an engraved inscription in Farsi half-way down the outer wall. Very few bowls carry inscriptions. They are a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.
It has an excellent middle octave D3 fundamental (298Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a fifth octave A5 (863Hz) with a wooden ringer.
This ancient Lingam bowl has the most beautiful patina, looks its age, and will be supplied uncleaned ‘as found’. It is structurally sound and free of blemihes.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
