Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: A3 & Eb5 (Third Eye & Solar Plexus Chakras)
Weight: 1.10 kilos (2 lb 7 oz). Size: 20 x 9 cm (8 x 3 ½ inches)
This rare large antique Lingam singing bowl has a gracefully curved wall, a sheered and faintly grooved lip, and dates from the 19th century. The neat lingam at its center is surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, and there is a navel or yoni underneath. Two bands of decorative dots surround the outer rim, and there is another band around its belly.
The fundamental note is a perfect pitch third octave A3 (219/220Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a fifth octave Eb5 (637Hz) with a wooden ringer.
This antique singing bowl benefits from an inscription on the outer wall. The inscription is probably in an old form of Farsi and is likely to be the name of a former keeper. Inscriptions are a sure sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held, and they add both interest and value.
This lovely antique Lingam bowl is supplied ‘as found’ (uncleaned). It is structurally sound and free of stains and blemishes.
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended suede and teak ringer are included in the price.
