Rare Superior Quality 18th Century A3 Lingam Singing Bowl – Perfection!

SOLD

Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: A3 & E5 (Third Eye & Solar Plexus Chakras)

Weight: 948 grams (2 lb 1 oz).  Size: 20 x 8.5 cm ( 8 x 3 ¼ inches)

This rare 18th century Lingam Singing Bowl has been wonderfully crafted and is beautifully proportioned.  Its 8-inch diameter is relatively large for a Lingam bowl, and its rare low profile sets it apart from most other bowls of this type.

It has a graciously curved and even wall, grooved lip, and a flat bottom. At its centre is a neat lingam surrounded by circles, with a matching navel or yoni underneath.  Tiny decorative dots form a collar around the outer rim.

The fundamental note is a wonderful third octave A3 (223Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave E5 (665Hz) with a wooden ringer.  It’s a responsive bowl and easy to play.

This rare bowl is structurally perfect and has the look and feel of great antiquity.  Its walls are deliciously smooth to the touch, and they have a fabulous aged patina and matt bronze colour with a fascinating and subtle crazed imprinted pattern whose origin is unknown.  A part of the outer wall features splashes and runs of guano caused by birds perching on the rim…all part of this bowl’s life story!  I love it!

Sheer Perfection, and one of my personal favourites!

A ringer is included in the price.
