Shallow Antique Singing Bowl with Unique Dignified & Solemn Voice

£600.00

Antique Singing Bowl. Notes: C#3 & F5 (Root & Heart Chakras)

Weight: 687 grams (1 lb 8 oz).  Size: 20 x 6 cm ( 8 x 2 ¼ inches)

This Antique Singing Bowl is one-of-a-kind both sonically and in its design, and was probably made with a special purpose in mind….such as shamanic divination or the preparation of herbal medicines, or even to display a ceremonial mandala.  It’s difficult to say as its shallow shape lends itself to any of those.  However, it seems clear to me that it is also a singing bowl and made to be played…more than likely on sacred and ceremonial occasions.  It’s quite possible that its primary function was sonic.

This bowl has unique sonic qualities.  The struck note is particularly beautiful…dignified, stately and solemn…perhaps a little gong-like.  A third octave C#3 (141Hz).  The rim note is equally beautiful…a fifth octave F5 (716Hz).  It is very responsive and easy to play.

It has a rather thin low wall, a sheered lip, and a flat bottom.  There are two sets of circles inside, with an eye (dot or tiny circle) at its centre.  The external wall has been deliberately blackened, with the top inch removed to form a decorative metal band or collar around the rim.   I have only  previously seen this feature on a few antique Ultabati bowls.

It is in excellent structural condition, clean, and free of stains and blemishes.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, padded striker, and a ringer are all included in the price.
