Unusual Singing Bowl. Notes: Bb3 & F5 (Crown & Heart Chakras)
Weight 1.07 Kilos (2 lb 6 oz). Size 19.5 x 11 cm (7 ½ x 3 ¾ inches)
This interesting pot-shaped singing bowl is quite large for this uncommon bowl type. It has a slightly bulbous high-sided wall and a flanged and grooved lip. Multiple decorative lines surround the outer rim, and a few parallel lines three-quarters of the way down the wall mark the separation between the golden polished part from the darker hammered area below….a really attractive feature!
This bowl is believed to date from the mid 20th century, and apart from having a somewhat uneven rim, it is in superb condition, clean and free of stains.
The globular shape of this bowl makes it self-amplifying. The fundamental note is a third octave Bb3 (239Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a nice fifth octave F5 (690Hz), which is quite close to perfect pitch, with a wooden ringer. It is very responsive and easy to play.
A ringer is included in the price.
