Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: C#4 & G5 (Root & Throat Chakras)

Weight 951 grams (2 lb 1 ½ oz). Size 17.5 x 10 cm (7 x 4 inches)

This rare medium-size antique Lingam Singing Bowl has bags of character and a great voice.  It has a smooth and gently curved wall and a grooved lip, both of which are very slightly irregular due to manufacturing difficulties.  Nonetheless, aesthetics were important and the top half of the exterior wall has been polished to contrast with the lower, the rim has been decorated with two rows of dots, and there are lines encircling the wall at intervals below the midpoint.

Furthermore, this bowl was considered worthy of an inscription, finely dot-punched on the outside wall. Very few bowls carry inscriptions, which are usually a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.

The fundamental note is a near perfect pitch middle octave C#4 (275Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a near perfect fifth octave G5 (787Hz) with a wooden ringer.

This rare and interesting lingam singing bowl is in excellent structural condition, clean, free of stains and blemishes (a very fine pencil line or scratch on the inside wall is not a crack).

It has considerable character and a particularly nice exterior colour…a rich yellow-gold bronze with an aged patina.  A lovely old bowl!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
