Exquisite Small Antique Lingam Singing Bowl – Perfect Pitch Bb4
£550.00
Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: Bb4 (Crown Chakra)
Weight: 487 grams (1 lb 1 oz). Size: 13 x 6 cm ( 5 ¼ x 2 ¼ inches)
This is a fabulous and very rare small superior-quality antique Lingam Singing Bowl with an absolutely perfect pitch middle octave Bb4 (466Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.
It has a beautiful curved wall, a deeply grooved rim, and a rounded bottom. There are decorative bands encircling the outer rim and at intervals lower down. The lingam at its centre is surrounded by circles and, unusually, there are decorative lines encircling the inner rim. There is a centrally placed navel or yoni underneath. This bowl fits very comfortably in the palm of the hand, and it is responsive and a delight to play.
This antique lingam singing bowl is believed to date from the 18th century. It is structurally sound and externally has a particularly attractive and colorful surface patina acquired over its long life.
Amusingly, this bowl’s rim has served as a bird perch at some point in time, and the bowl’s inside has been lightly stained by runs of their poop (guano). The poop-stains could probably be removed with effort, but they are part of the bowl’s life-story that I personally think adds interest and character.
Small lingam bowls are extremely uncommon and very collectable. This one has a wonderful voice and the look and feel of great antiquity.
A rare find!
A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.
