Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: C#4 & G#5 (Root & Throat Chakras)
Weight 968 grams (2 lb 2 oz). Size 18 x 9.5 cm (7 x 3 ¾ inches)
This rare superior quality and medium-size antique Lingam Singing Bowl dates from the 18th century.
It is considerably thicker and heavier than average, and has a gracefully curved high-sided wall, a grooved lip, and a rounded bottom. The lingam at its center is surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, with a matching navel or yoni underneath. Two parallel bands of decorative dots encircle the outer rim. There were originally lines around its belly but they have been worn away by years of use and cleaning, and are now faint.
This handsome bowl is very responsive and easy to play. The fundamental note is a superb middle C#4 (282hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a powerful and penetrating perfect pitch fifth octave G#5 (832Hz) with a wooden ringer.
It is in excellent structural condition, unusually clean and free of stains and blemishes, with an attractive aged patina.
A particularly nice example of this rare bowl form!
A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
