Extra-Thick Medium-Size Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl ‘As Found’ – Inscribed

This unusually thick and heavy antique Manipuri Singing Bowl is supplied as found, uncleaned, with an aged patina, some small stains, and copper oxidization inside.  It is in good structural condition, but looks its age!

It benefits from a dot-punched male name inscribed on the outer wall in Nepali.  Its prickly surface suggests that it was inscribed long after the bowl was made, but certainly not recently.*  It was obviously an important bowl to the later owner. 

*Older inscriptions are typically worn down level with the bowl’s surface.

The fundamental note is close to perfect pitch middle D4 (292Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave G#5 (840Hz) with a wooden ringer.
