Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: D4 & F#5 (Sacral & Throat Chakras)

Weight: 716 grams (1 lb 9 ¼ oz).  Size: 17.5 x 8.5 cm (7 x 3 ¼ inches)

This is a fabulous and rare 18th century Lingam singing bowl with a silky smooth surface acquired through centuries of use.  It has a gracefully curved body and a sheered pie-crust rim surrounded by a ring of decorative  suns (dots within circles) and downward-facing triangles.  The circles have been worn away, leaving just the deeper punched dots at their centre.  The neat lingam at its center was also probably surrounded by suns, but they too have worn away with the passage of time.  There is a neat navel or yoni underneath.

The fundamental note is a good middle octave D4 (289Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave G#5 (820Hz) with a wooden ringer.

This lovely antique Lingam bowl is structurally sound, clean, and free of stains and blemishes.  A few inclusions (specs of dust and grit present in the molten alloy) on the outer wall testify to the primitive conditions under which this bowl was forged, and add interest.

A double-ended suede and teak ringer is included in the price.
