Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: E4 (Solar Plexus Chakra)

Weight 1.31 kilos (2 lb 14 oz).  Size 21 x 9 cm (8 ¼ x 3 ½ inches)

This superior quality antique Lingam Singing Bowl dates from the 18th Century.  It has an extra-thick and gracefully curved wall and features a primitive folded and sheered ‘pie-lip’ rim of a type exclusively associated with older bowls.  The lip slopes inwards and is triangulated and lightly grooved.

It has a relatively low profile and is heavy for its size, but still comfortable to hold and play.  There is a very nice lingam surrounded and defined by circles at its centre, with a matching navel or yoni underneath.  Several incised bands encircling the outer rim form a decorative collar.

This ancient bowl benefits from an engraved inscription on the outer wall; a fair indication of the high esteem in which it was held by a former keeper.  Very few bowls carry inscriptions.

The fundamental note is a distinctive middle octave E4 (324Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer.  It is a responsive bowl and easy to play.

This antique Lingam Singing Bowl is structurally sound and free of stains and blemishes.  It has particularly attractive hammer markings around the outer wall, and an aged patina.

A superior quality bowl with the look and feel of great antiquity!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker, and a double ended teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.
