Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl. Notes: Eb4 & A5 (Solar Plexus & Third Eye Chakras)

Weight: 903 grams (2 lb 0 oz).  Size: 16.5 x 8 cm (6 ½ x 3 ¼ inches)

This is an archetypal Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl with its high-side almost straight walls, flat bottom, and grooved lip with two bands of decorative dots encircling the outer rim.  This is an old 19th century bowl and the circles at its centre are fairly faint, having been worn down from years of use, as have the magical or ritual gashes that once adorned the outer wall.

Unusually for a Thadobati, there is a fairly long dot-punched inscription on the outer wall.  Very few bowls carry inscriptions.  They are a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper.

The fundamental note is a nice middle octave Eb4 (308-9Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note is a fifth octave A5 (870Hz) when played with a wooden ringer.

It is in excellent structural condition, clean and stain-free, with an attractive bright golden bronze colour.

A very nice example of this popular bowl type!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
