Antique Pedestal Singing Bowl. Notes: D4 & G#5 (Sacral & Throat Chakras)
Weight: 1.29 kilos (2 lb 13 oz). Size: 18.5 x 13 cm (7 ¼ x 5 inches)
This is a large and heavy example of a superior quality antique Pedestal Singing Bowl with an excellent middle octave D4 (299Hz) fundamental when struck or played around the rim with a suede ringer. If desired the rim note will slowly develop into a powerful fifth octave G#5 (811Hz). It is a very responsive bowl and easy to play.
Typical of this bowl type there are multiple decorative bands encircling the outer rim. The lip is finely grooved.
This bowl benefits from a very nice dot-punched two-line inscription set between a pair of matching lotus flowers. Inscriptions are a sign of the high esteem in which a bowl was held by a former keeper, and always add interest and value.
It is structurally sound and clean with a patch of aged staining on the outer wall. At some point in its long life this bowl has been stored in a jute sack for a long time, the impression of which has been transferred to the bowl’s wall. I rather like it…it’s all part of the bowl’s life story and adds to its character.
An interesting and characterful antique chalice or pedestal bowl with a great voice!
A complementary double-ended teak and suede ringer is included.
